With a reputation for being a centre for world-class international events, Monaco was once again home to one of the most prestigious historic car races. The bi-annual Grand Prix de Monaco Histrorique event was predicted to enchant all lovers of beautiful classic grand prix cars, and it certainly lived up to and even exceeded all expectations.
The renowned event included classics from many historic eras, with races from pre 1947 through to 1978 vintage race cars, which consisted of both Formula 3 and Formula 1 models. According to Monaco-Historic-Grand-Prix.com, “the races of the Historic Monaco Grand Prix offer a retrospective of the golden age of racing in Monaco, running on the famous Formula 1 circuit”.
Racing has been a widespread past time in Monte Carlo, Monaco since 1929, which even back then saw thousands of people line the streets to watch the display of spectacular cars – but the modern way to watch the race is to hang out by your hotel pool with a beer in hand, over-looking the race track below. If you were lucky enough to stay in a hotel located on the famous hairpin bend, you would have been able to witness some amazing racing driving skills and the occasional scuffle which saw an unfortunate collision that forced one driver to abort the race and become a mere spectator like the rest of us.

For those classic enthusiasts there were plenty of vintage motors to feast your eyes on, which included pre 1947 Voiturettes and Grand Prix cars, pre 1961 front engine Grand Prix cars, 1953 sports and sports prototypes cars, 1964-1970 Formula 3 1000 CC cars, 1966 rear engine Grand Prix cars, pre 1975-1978 Formula 1, 3 litre cars and 1971-1984 Formula 3, 1600 cc and 2000 cc cars.
In addition to the infamous classic grand prix, the glamour and beautiful scenery of the Principality deserve equal credit – with the predicted rain even holding off until all races were completed and all laps of honour concluded.
