New York, a great place for diversity and a great place to be; come June 27 to August 07, 2010, the New York Summer Music Festival (NYSMF) will be holding its annual summer camp and will be hosted by the State University of New York’s Music Department.
The summer camp will be held at State University of New York (SUNY) campus at Catskill Mountains in Oneonta. The university was built and founded in 1889 and is quite famous for its excellent facilities. Although actual activities for 2010 are still unavailable, a glimpse of last year’s summer music festival revealed that the summer camp students had the grandest musical experience using the facilities of SUNY’s Hunt Union building.
The building provided the classrooms, rehearsal rooms, theatre venues, teaching studios, film making lab and the newly renovated Fine Arts Center.
Summer camp students will be provided with everything from grand pianos to ATM machines, from residence halls to entertainment facilities and from counsellors to health care services.
What to Expect from NY Summer Music Festival?
NY Summer Music Festival is actually a summer camp where youths aged 10 to 25 can make good use of their free time to learn and hone their musical interests. In this summer music festival, they will have the opportunity to attend one on one lessons with some of the best professional musicians from different musical institutions, ensembles and organizations like Julliard, Curtis, the New York Pops, The Manhattan School of Music, the Vanguard Jazz Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra, just to name a few.

Since students will be performing in their own concerts, they are expected to bring along the proper attire in accordance with the NY Summer Music Festival’s dress code. White shirt or blouse on black pants, black shoes and black socks. In any case, the student may bring extra formal attires since the conductor has the final discretion whether a deviation from the black and white rule will be suitable. Black jackets and ties are optional but past experiences have shown that they add to the elegance and sophistication of the concerts.
During regular days, student are expected to come in decent clothes that will not be considered as distasteful, very distasteful and overly distasteful to the point of causing discomfort and embarrassment to everyone involved in the summer music festival.
For instruments or equipment, the students are asked to get a complete checklist from the New York Summer Music Festival website.
In case a student is interested and may need some financial help, The National Society of Arts and letters offers scholarship grants of ,000 for students aged 16 to 22, who wish take up voice lessons and visual arts.
New York is indeed a place where numerous opportunities await every aspiring individual where one could find a realization of dreams even in a summer music festival.
